22 years after “Basquiat”, Julian Schnabel, director of “Before Night Falls” and “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” returns to tell us about great art. Schnabel shows on the screen the last tormented years of Vincent Van Gogh. The genius of Vincent Van Gogh is told through the eyes of a contemporary artist, in partnership with Jean-Claude Carriere for the script. Willem Dafoe, winner of Coppa Volpi for Best Actor at Venice Film Festival, plays the restless Dutch painter.
From the stormy relationship with Gauguin to the visceral one with his brother, to the deadly mysterious gunshot when he was only 37 years old. Among external conflicts and loneliness, a hectic and very productive period that led to the creation of historical works of art that keeps on charming the whole world nowadays. A movie about the creativity and sacrifices of the Dutch genius, about the feverish intensity of his art, his vision of the World and the reality.
