The film brings on big screen all the issues topics Dolan is famous for: the mother/son relationship, homosexuality, childhood. Rupert Turner (Ben Schnetzer), a young actor, decides to tell the real story of John F. Donovan (Kit Harington), an American TV star passed away ten years earlier. Donovan opened his heart to Tuner in an epistolary correspondence, revealing the turmoil of a hidden secret. Thus he portraits Donovan’s life and career, from rise to decline, caused by an unproven scandal.
